Description 

Our Standard First Aid and CPR/AED is a comprehensive two-day course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training for work requirements, or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. The course covers a variety of topics from basic (circulation and breathing emergencies, and prevention of disease transmission), to in-depth (sudden medical emergencies and injuries to the head and/or spine).

Duration

16 hours of teaching time; two 8-hour days. 

Completion 

  • Successfully demonstrate skills and critical steps
  • 75% mark for written knowledge evaluation
  • Attend and participate in 100% of the course

Certification

3-year certification in Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and AED

This course is a certified first aid prerequisite for those wishing to register in LSS National Lifeguard Service(link is external).

Recertification

8 hours; recertification is intended for individuals holding a valid Standard First Aid Certification (2-days) needing to recertify. A certification is only deemed to be valid if the expiration date on the card has not passed. Students with an expired certification must take the full 2-day Standard First Aid Certification.

  • Wound Basics (minor cuts, scrapes, punctures, bruises, and burns)
  • Secondary Survey
  • Head & spinal injuries
  • Muscle, bone & joint injuries
  • Burns (heat, chemical, electrical, sun)
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • Seizures or Convulsions (includes infant/child high fever)
  • Heat Cramps, Heat Exhaustion, and Heat Stroke
  • Hypothermia and frostbite
  • Emergency childbirth
  • Poisoning
